DIY Bunny Wreath

Hi There!

It may be a tad early, but I made my first spring craft today. Here in AZ, spring turns quickly to summer, so I like to enjoy the season while I can! Anyway, I've been seeing these adorable grapevine bunny wreaths in the stores, and after taking a look at the prices, I decided to make my own.

white bunny wreath, twigs, wreaths

I already had these two wreaths on hand. The smaller one was part of my spring mantel, but since it was the perfect size for the bunny's head, I now have an empty picture frame on the mantel. Oh well, that just means there's another decorating project in the works! So, I had two wreaths for the bunny's body, and I pulled out some twigs that were leftover from another project. The twigs were slightly curved, and I thought they would be perfect for a pair of bunny ears. Isn't this an odd assortment?

twigs and wreaths

Because the front door is very dark, a regular grapevine wreath would never show up--I found this out the hard way last year when I hung a very rustic, sparsely decorated grapevine wreath on the door, and it turned out to be nearly invisible from the street! To make the rabbit as light as possible, I spray painted both the wreath and the twigs white and formed the twigs into two bunny ears.

I attached the ears to the head with hot glue, and I used thin wire to attach the small wreath to the larger one. Then, I wrapped a small piece of burlap ribbon over the wire and glued the ends of the ribbon together. The wreath needed a pop of color, so I took some yellow, pink, and blue ribbons and made a large bow, which I glued to the burlap. The bow reminds me of the colored grass you see in Easter baskets.

I trimmed the ends of the ribbons and used a dark brown ribbon to hang the wreath from the holder. The dark ribbon blends in with the door, so now we have a floating bunny wreath! It looks cute this way, but I'm now wondering why I didn't paint the holder a different color. Oh well, I'm happy with the way the wreath turned out--what do you think?

Since I already had everything I needed for this project, the wreath was essentially free--can't beat that! This was such an easy project, and it didn't take long to do. You can save a ton of money by making your own bunny wreath this spring! Now, I just need to decide what I'm doing with the mantel. Have you started making any spring or Easter crafts yet?

Thanks for visiting--have a wonderful day!

Dee :)
