DIY Foam Peeps Bunnies

Hello Everyone!

Lately, I've been having so much fun making spring crafts and using them to decorate the house. Honestly, I think one of the best things about crafting is being able to have some cute decorations without spending a lot of money. If I see something I like in a store, I try to recreate the look at home. Anyway, I did something a little different this week, and I made these foam Peeps bunnies. The best thing about these bunnies is that there's no guilt attached. Because you can't eat them, they're not bad for you!

The bunnies are rather large, but they are super easy to make. I did them freehand, without using a pattern, and let's face it -- there's not much detail involved here. I bought two large pieces of foam board at the craft store, and I didn't even think to take a picture of them first, but trust me, they were very plain!

I looked at some Peeps bunnies, traced an outline and then cut one out. I used this as a template for the second bunny, and this made it so much easier. I definitely recommend doing this outside if you can because the foam is messy when cut. You can smooth out the rough edges by gently sanding them.

So, now I had these two giant marshmallows. Don't they look like marshmallows? They just needed a quick coat of color, so I painted one bunny pink and the other one yellow. You do have to remember to paint light coats because you don't want the foam to be too wet! After the paint dried, I used some burnt umber craft paint to add they eyes and noses.

The real Peeps don't have perfect faces, so I wasn't worried about making the circles perfectly round. This color really resembles chocolate! The grass is already green here, so I took the bunnies out into the yard for a quick photo shoot.

Aren't they cute?! I couldn't resist adding two Easter eggs, with help from PicMonkey. I thought about adding a bow or flower, but the kids wanted these Peeps to be as realistic as possible. They even suggested making a bite mark on the ears! Of course, I couldn't let that happen! Right now, these little bunnies are helping to decorate the fireplace for spring. I'm still tweaking the mantel decorations, and I'll show you the entire area when I'm done.

Thanks for stopping by! I love having visitors, and I hope you'll come back soon. Have a great day!

Dee :)
