One of our favorite drinks to enjoy during the holiday season is eggnog, and when it starts popping up in the grocery stores, the kids get super excited.

We use eggnog in many delicious recipes, including Eggnog Pie, Eggnog Dip, Eggnog Cheesecake, eggnog pancakes, eggnog donuts, eggnog fudge and this easy homemade eggnog French toast recipe.

This easy French toast recipe is full of eggnog flavor and makes a fun, festive breakfast during this time of year. If you’re looking for a special breakfast for the holidays, this is it!

Ingredients

You only need a few simple ingredients to make this Christmas French toast recipe. They should be easy to find in your grocery store. This is also a great way to use up leftover eggnog!

  • Loaf of bread — French bread, Texas Toast, Challah bread or brioche bread are all good. Avoid thinly sliced white bread, like sandwich bread.
  • Eggs — large eggs
  • Eggnog — store-bought eggnog or homemade eggnog.
  • Vanilla extract
  • Spices — cinnamon, nutmeg and salt
  • Butter — for greasing the skillet

Pro tip – Use day old bread or leave slices out at room temperature for about an hour to dry a little. You can also dry bread in the oven on low if your bread is very fresh. This helps prevent soggy French toast.

How to Make French Toast with Eggnog

First, make the French toast batter. In a small shallow dish or large bowl, beat the eggs, cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla.

Next, whisk in the eggnog. Keep whisking until all of the ingredients are well blended and smooth.

Heat a griddle, large nonstick pan, large skillet or electric skillet over medium heat until hot. We like to cook French toast on the Blackstone griddle since it cooks super fast.

Then melt a tablespoon of butter on the skillet.

Dip the bread into the egg mixture, and flip so that both sides are covered in batter. Let the excess batter drip back into the baking dish.

Cook Time

Then, place the dipped bread slices onto the hot griddle, and cook for about 2 to 3 minutes per side until both sides are golden brown.

Total cooking time depends upon how many slices of bread you are using and what size skillet or griddle you have.

How to Serve

If you want to serve all of the eggnog French toast at once, place the cooked French toast on a rimmed baking sheet, and place uncovered in a 200 degree oven to keep warm until you are ready to eat.

Top your egg nog French toast with a favorite topping and add some crispy bacon on the side. A cup of coffee or hot chocolate completes this festive breakfast!

We set out butter, warm maple syrup, caramel sauce, whipped cream, powdered sugar, fresh berries and mini chocolate chips. People can pick their own toppings this way.
