If you’re looking for easy Easter treats, you’re going to love this bunny bait recipe! It’s super easy to make, and it’s definitely kid friendly. But hey, bunny bait isn’t just for kids — I can vouch for that!
Bunny bait is a salty and sweet snack mix made with popcorn, Rice Chex cereal and seasonal chocolate candies with a drizzle of white chocolate to hold it all together.
Some people call it Bunny Chow or funfetti popcorn, but these are all pretty much the same.
It’s never too early to be thinking about Easter recipes. Whether you’re serving Easter brunch or dinner, you need something to munch on while you’re waiting for the food to be served.
Bunny bait is a fun snack mix that is also perfect for class parties, movie nights, and Easter baskets!
Ingredients
You only need a few simple ingredients for this Easter bunny bait recipe. You should find everything online or in you favorite grocery store:
- Popcorn
- Rice Chex cereal
- White chocolate chips — or white candy melts
- Candy eggs — mini Cadbury egg candy or robin eggs
- m&m candy — Easter m&m candy
- Mini marshmallow bits
- Colored sugar sprinkles — spring sprinkles
How to Make Bunny Bait Snack Mix for Easter
To make this snack mix recipe super easy, I like to start out with a bag of plain popcorn — Boom Chicka Pop. You can pop your own popcorn or use any brand of ready to eat popcorn.
First, place rice Chex cereal and popcorn on a baking sheet or cookie sheet lined with wax paper.
In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the white chocolate chips in 15 second intervals. Then, drizzle the white melted chocolate all over the Chex and popcorn mixture.
Next, toss in some mini marshmallow bits. You can find these with regular mini marshmallows. If you can’t find them, leave them out.
For an extra pop of color, I like to add some colored sugar sprinkles or candy sprinkles. If you don’t have special Easter sprinkles, just choose some fun sprinkles in different colors.
Then, add pastel Easter eggs and M&M candies. We happened to have some Annie’s White Cheddar Bunnies, so I also tossed in a few of those.
Mix it all together, and let it hang out and dry for about 30 minutes. Of course, you have to taste it!
When it comes to eating this bunny bait Easter mix, break it up however you want. You can crumble it up or break larger portions, if you want a big helping of this bunny snack mix.
To make clean breaks, grab the chunk of snack mix, and gently snap off desired portions. If you press too hard, the candies and popcorn might separate!
Substitutions
There’s no one version of bunny bait — customize this sweet treat however you see fit!
Use your favorite chocolate candies. I like to pick ones with bright pastel colors, such as Easter m&m candy, but you can also use traditional m&m candies.
In addition to white chocolate drizzle, use melted milk chocolate or dark chocolate. Or, try different colored candy melt drizzles, for a little more pizzazz.
Make a bunny bait trail mix with peanuts, almonds, yogurt covered raisins, and some mini pretzels or pretzel sticks.
How to Store
Store your Easter bunny bait snack mix in an airtight container.
You could leave leftovers out at room temperature, depending on your kitchen temperature. We usually keep our snack mix in the refrigerator, just so it all stays together.
This bunny bait Chex mix treat is also the perfect treat for filling individual treat bags! If you’re going to make goodie bags, I would definitely keep them refrigerated, so that things don’t get runny.

Bunny Bait Snack Mix
Ingredients
- 8 cups popcorn
- 2 cups rice chex cereal
- 2 cups white chocolate
- ½ cup candy eggs
- 1 cup m & m candy
- ½ cup mini marshmallow bits
- colored sugar sprinkles
Instructions
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or wax paper, and spread Rice Chex cereal and popcorn evenly on baking sheet
- Melt white chocolate according to package directions, and use spoon to drizzle evenly over cereal and popcorn
- Drop candy and marshmallows evenly over mixture, and sprinkle with colored sugar
- Stir, and allow to chocolate to set and mixture to firm up — about 30 minutes — before serving. Store covered in cool place.
