Hi Friends!
I am so excited that fall is just around the corner! Are you? It’s probably my favorite season, so I decided to make the first fall craft of the year. It’s still warm here, and we won’t be seeing cool temperatures until probably October, but by then, it will be time to start decorating for Halloween. This is also the first fall that I have a mantel to decorate, so I made this easy fall pennant garland to hang over the mantel.
This pennant garland was so easy to make, and I already had the materials on hand. To make your own fall garland, you’ll need:
- Twine
- Burlap ribbon
- Wooden letters
- Mini clothespins
- glue
- Scissors
- Craft paint
- Paint brush
I had some of this pretty printed burlap ribbon that was left over from my sunflower wreath makeover, so I decided to use it to make the pennants. First, I cut four triangles from the ribbon.
I already had some wooden letters, and I painted them a mustard-yellow color. I thought this color would look nice against the black print on the burlap.
I used a tiny bit of hot glue to attach the letters to the burlap. The edges of the burlap are slightly frayed, but I think this makes the triangles more rustic looking. Plus, the garland will fit with the rustic mantel decor I’m working on.
To complete the garland, I cut some twine, and then I simply attached the triangles to the twine with colored mini clothespins.
I used both yellow and red clothespins because I thought this would add a little pop of color to the garland. And, these colors remind me of fall leaves, which we don’t see too often here in the desert!

Wasn’t this an easy craft?! I can’t wait to show you how the garland looks on the mantel! I’m not entirely done with the mantel, but I used the garland as part of another decoration, and I think it looks great so far.
Have you started crafting or decorating for fall yet? Do you go all out, or do you keep it simple? Inquiring minds would love to know!
Thanks so much for stopping by. I hope you’ll keep coming back to see a little bit of fall in the desert!
Dee 🙂

Thanks, Christine! I've never done the Mod Podge technique before, but I don't think I would have the patience for that. 🙂

Now that is too cute and simple! I love that you made it out of ribbon instead of spending an hour cutting burlap fabric and stiffening it with mod podge (which I hate doing….lol) Great job!

We went up north for a day last year, and it was so much fun to see the leaves changing. The kids had a blast! 🙂
