Ice cream pies are always a big hit in our house, and I thought I would share the Frozen Grasshopper Pie that we devoured a few days ago. Actually, this was our Valentine’s Day dessert, although this would be a terrific dessert for Saint Patrick’s Day or really, any day!
There are so many different ways to make grasshopper pie, and there really is no right or wrong way to make it. We found that this version appeals to the mint lovers and chocolate fanatics in the family.
Ingredients for Frozen Grasshopper Pie
- 1 graham cracker crust
- 1/2 cup chocolate syrup
- 10 to 12 OREOs, crushed
- 1/2 gallon mint chocolate chip ice cream
- Whipped topping or whipped cream
We started with a chocolate graham cracker crust and added a layer of chocolate syrup. We let this firm up in the freezer, and then we added some crushed Oreos. Of course, we had to sample some of the Oreos.
Then, we filled the crust with enough mint chocolate chip ice cream to fill the pie shell. We added more crushed Oreos over the ice cream, and we gobbled up any stray cookie crumbs that may have fallen off of the pie.
The pie definitely needed more chocolate, so we drizzled additional chocolate syrup over the entire thing. At this point, the pie was ready to go into the freezer, and the waiting period began. This was the hardest part of the entire process, and I had to keep a watchful eye on the freezer. Of course, no one thought to watch me, but I behaved myself!
When it was time for dessert, I topped the whole pie off with a thick layer of whipped topping and added some mint candies and more Oreos for garnish.
Because this ice cream pie is so rich, a small serving goes a long way. We even had leftovers!
Frosty, chocolaty, minty goodness! We will definitely be having more frozen desserts as the weather begins to warm up! What’s your favorite pie?
Thanks for the visit. Have an awesome day!
