After a busy day, one of the easiest ways to get dinner on the table is to order out for pizza. But for a large family like ours, it can get expensive, especially when you start to pile on the toppings. Sometimes, I’ll make individual pizza rounds out of English muffins, but when I’m serving the entire family, Hearty French Bread Pizza is the way to go. Not only is it easy to make, but it’s inexpensive, satisfying and heats up well as leftovers. Oh, and it’s downright tasty too!
We’re meat lovers, so we usually make our french bread pizzas with pre-cooked chicken or sausage. But last week, we had some leftover bacon to add to the mix, and oh my, that was the bomb! You can plan ahead and save any chicken or sausage you might have left over, or you can pick up a cooked rotisserie chicken from your favorite store and use part of that. The rest of the ingredients are easy.
- 2 loaves of French bread
- 2 jars of your favorite Alfredo sauce
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- Parmesan cheese to sprinkle on top
- Italian seasoning
- 4 Italian sausages, cooked and diced sausage
- 1 red bell pepper, chopped
- Crumbled, cooked bacon
You can also add as many other toppings as you like, and of course, you can go crazy and add more cheese too!
I like to have salad whenever we have pizza, so I’ll usually add some mixed greens or lettuce on the side. It kinds of offsets the ooey gooeyness of the cheese.
So, the next time you want a quick and easy meal, skip the take-out and make this Hearty French Bread Pizza instead. If you’re not a meat eater, this is tasty enough to eat plain. And, if you want smaller portions, it’s easy to halve the recipe.
Thanks for stopping by for a quick bite to eat. Have a super day!
