Rustic Scrap Wood Pumpkins

I may be pushing things a little bit, but I have another fall wood craft to share today. After making those wooden apples last week, I decided to get started on some pumpkins. And yes, I do realize it’s still early, but I’m pretty much done with the summer heat already. So I made these rustic scrap wood pumpkins, and now I can’t wait to put them out!

What is it about the seasons changing that gets us so excited? We couldn’t wait for summer, and now, fall just can’t come fast enough. I know the heat definitely has me waiting for sweater weather, although it’ll be a good while before we need another layer of clothing here in the desert!

But anyway, it doesn’t take much to get me excited about fall crafts, and pumpkins are aways fun to make!

These pumpkins are slightly different than the apples or the Jack-o-lanterns I made last year. They’re made from a 2 x 6 wooden board instead of a 2 x 4, so they’re a little wider than the others, but they’re still super easy to make.

How to Make Rustic Scrap Wood Pumpkins

Supplies Needed

3 2 x 6 wood pieces cut into varying lengths
Twigs or sticks for the stems
Orange craft paint and some brown paint
Glue
Twine
Scissors
Sandpaper

Directions

First, I had Hubby cut more wood twigs from the bougainvillea outside, and then, we glued them to the top of the wood blocks.

I wanted these pumpkins to look like they were made from old wood, so I used the brown paint around the edges and in different spots on the wood. Then, I painted over the brown with the orange paint.

I sanded the edges a little bit to make the pumpkins a little more rustic. My kids always

tease me when I do this because they don’t share my love of anything rustic or vintage..

After that, I tied a combination of green and brown twine around the stems to mimic the appearance of vines and leaves.

Voila, c’est tout! That’s all you need to do to make a few rustic scrap wood pumpkins!

When it gets closer to Halloween, I’ll pull out the Jack-o-lanterns, but for now, these guys look so cute next to the wood apples. And, I’m definitely in the mood for fall!
