Crescent Mummy Dogs for Halloween made with hot dogs and crescent rolls are the perfect recipe to make for a quick Halloween dinner or party. Kids of all ages love these easy hot dog mummies!

I’ve been making basic mummy dogs for Halloween dinner since my kids were babies, or at least, since they were old enough to eat solid food. Okay, so maybe that’s exaggerating a bit, but you get the idea.

You’ve heard of mummy dogs, right? They’re just your basic hot dog wrapped in strips of refrigerated crescent dough and baked until the hot dogs are done and the dough is golden brown and slightly puffy.

When they’re done, these little Halloween hot dogs resemble mummies and are actually super cute!

We also love to make the Halloween Oreo Pumpkin Treats, Halloween Candy Bark, Halloween Marshmallow Pops, Halloween Candy Pretzels and Nutter Butter Ghost Cookies for Halloween night.

Ingredients

You only need a few simple ingredients to make crescent roll mummy dogs for Halloween:

  • Hot dogs
  • Refrigerated crescent dough
  • Mustard
  • Candy eyes (optional)
  • Sriracha sauce (optional)

How to Make Halloween Mummy Dogs

Mummy hot dogs are super simple to make. All you have to do is wrap regular hot dogs with strips of crescent dough, using thin strips of dough to imitate mummy wrap.

For a little extra flavor, lightly coat the hot dogs with sriracha sauce or ketchup prior to wrapping the dough. This is the perfect way to add great flavor to these Halloween treats!

The crescent dough I use has its own press perforations, which makes it easy to just rip-off the pieces of dough.

But you can cut your own slices with a pizza cutter, kitchen scissors or sharp knife. You can also use the new crescent dough sheet and cut that into thin strips.

I’m not a perfectionist when it comes to wrapping up the dogs, but hey, who’s to judge? If you don’t want to cut the dough into strips, just wrap the hot dogs with crescent triangles, starting with the thin end.

Stretch the dough out as you wrap the hot dog. If you have extra dough, just keep wrapping until the hot dog is fully covered.

You can leave the end of each hot dog uncovered by dough, or leave room for only the candy eyes to stick out.

Have as much fun as you want with your mummies!

The kids love helping with this fun meal perfect for Halloween dinner, and they’re not picky, either. Lucky for us!

If You don’t use candy eyes, you can leave a space for the mummy’s face.

The candy eyes need to stick to something. If you are using them, wrap the the face with crescent dough.

Then, place the mummy dog wraps on a large cookie sheet. I do recommend lining your baking sheets with aluminum foil before baking.

It makes clean-up so much easier! Feel free to use cooking spray as well.

Cooking Time

Bake the mummy dogs in a preheated oven at 375 degrees f. They take about 15 minutes to fully cook.

When the hot dog mummies are done, the dough will be golden brown and flaky.

When the crescent dogs are done, use a dab of mustard or ketchup to affix the candy eyes to the dough. Press lightly to make sure the eyes stick.

If you don’t want to use candy eyes, you can use plain mustard, instead. When the mummy dogs are done, you just make some eyes with dots of mustard.

Aren’t they cute?!

You can serve these spicy mummy dogs for a Halloween dinner, lunch or for Halloween parties. Add some chips, fresh fruit, and you’ve got yourself a fun meal!

Variations

To make cheesy mummy dogs, add thin strips of cheese over the hot dogs before you wrap them in dough.

To vary the size of the mummy dogs, you can cut your hot dogs in half to make mini mummy dogs.

Or, you can use little smokies instead of hot dogs.

Use kielbasa, or different types of sausage to vary the mummies’ flavor, if you want! You can even use fish sticks or chicken strips!

How to Store and Reheat

These mummy dogs are easy to store. Just keep them in an airtight container or bag and refrigerate them.

To reheat, pop them in the microwave, bake them in the oven, or air-fry them!
