I spent the weekend clearing out my Halloween decorations and getting out the late fall and Thanksgiving stuff. The temperatures have dropped down into the 70’s, and it’s been absolutely gorgeous here! The cooler weather definitely put me in a fall mood, and I got the mantel finished — yea! Mantel decor is kind of tricky for me, so I had to play around with everything for a little while, but the Thanksgiving mantel is done.
This year, I went for a more muted look. Normally, I love the oranges and deep reds of fall, but this year, I’m loving the softer colors, at least in this room. The front room still has more traditional fall colors.
Some people love the look of simple mantel decor, but I like a fuller look, especially for Thanksgiving. I did keep the hearth pretty plain, so I guess it kind of balances things out.
I’ve had this grapevine pumpkin for a few years, and I perched it on top of a white candlestick. I found these mums on clearance at the craft store and snatched up a few. I like how the center is glittery and sparkles in the light!
Gather seems like an appropriate word for Thanksgiving, so I bought a pack of cardboard letters and arranged them on twine. It’s hard to tell here, but they have a light dusting of glitter on them, which adds a bit of extra shine, especially in the afternoon light. I love the weathered backdrop for fall, but I’m making a different one for Christmas. I made these primitive pumpkins last week and placed them in the very center of the mantel. I added a basket for more contrast against the wood.
There’s another candlestick holding a painted pumpkin on the other side of the mantel, along with more sparkly mums and a sparkly pumpkin, which I made last year. Both of the candlesticks used to be silver, but I made them over with white chalk paint.
As I was taking pictures, one of the fur boys was checking out the leaves inside of the crate. He’s been known to take leaves and either shred them or hide them, but this time, he was good and only gave the arrangement a quick sniff.
Thanks so much for stopping by to take a peek at our Thanksgiving mantel. If you have some decorations to share, let me know. I’d love to stop by for a visit!
Have a wonderful day!
