Ingredients

  • ½ medium onion about 1 cup, diced
  • 1 medium bell pepper seeded and diced
  • 1 ½ pounds lean ground beef
  • 8 oz tomato sauce
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon paprika

Instructions

  • Cook the bell pepper and onion in a large frying pan on medium high heat until soft
  • Add ground beef, and cook until no longer pink, breaking up with a spatula or wooden spoon as you go. Drain grease if needed
  • Add the remaining ingredients, and stir until well combined
  • Allow to simmer on medium or medium low heat, stirring occasionally, until sauce is reduced and meat mixture is thick, about 15-20 minutes
  • Serve on brioche buns or hamburger buns

Notes

Can sub ground turkey, chicken or pork for the beef and ketchup or tomato paste for the tomato sauce.
You can reduce the amount of sugar if desired.
We like to add cheese, but this is optional.
