Hi There!

Ever since I saw some of the rustic wood trees that have been appearing around the blogosphere, I wanted to make my own version of one. Hubby recently did some yard work, and he saved a bunch of mesquite branches for me–yea!  Right away, I knew I had the perfect materials for a twig Christmas tree.

This is such an easy and frugal project, and it only took some twigs and glue. It’s also a pretty quick craft–after the glue dries, you have a rustic tree to display.

First, cut the branches so that you have some small, medium and large branches. You also need one thick branch for the tree trunk. Then, just arrange them until you get the right look.

When you get the look you want, you can start gluing branches to the front part. I used Tacky Glue because I thought it would be less messy than dealing with hot glue. I went back and used some hot glue on some of the larger branches to help them stick better. My little guy really enjoyed helping with this project!

After all of the branches were attached and the glue had dried, the little twig tree looked like this.

I thought about using it as a wall hanging, but then I thought about how great this would look by the fireplace. So, I placed the trunk in a red basket and added some pinecones as a filler. I also found some small ornaments and added a few to the branches. Wouldn’t this look great against a wooden fence or pallet?

I don’t have either of these things, but I do think the tree looks nice by the fireplace, and it fits in really well with the rustic look of the room.

I’m putting the finishing touches on the fireplace, and I can’t wait to show it to you!  Are you still decorating for Christmas, or are you mostly done?

Thanks so much for letting me share this craft with you. Have a wonderful day!

Dee 🙂
