Easy Swiss Chicken Recipe
A while ago, I found an easy recipe for Swiss chicken in my grandma’s recipe collection. With a couple of modifications, I made this cheesy baked Swiss chicken casserole recipe using the original recipe as a guide.
I cut the chicken into smaller pieces so it cooks faster and is easier to serve. Then, I added green beans, topped it off with a layer of boxed stuffing mix, and baked it until golden brown, crispy and delicious! My family loves it, and I love how easy it is to prepare!
Why you’ll love this cheesy chicken recipe!

- Easy comfort food ready in about 35 minutes
- Cooks in one pan for easy clean-up
- Tender chicken, creamy sauce, cheese, crispy topping. Picky eater approved!
Ingredients

Here are the basics. Complete amounts and full recipe are in the printable recipe card below.
- Boneless skinless chicken breasts — cut into smaller pieces
- Cream of chicken soup — the base of the creamy sauce
- Chicken broth — or stock. Thins the sauce and moistens the stuffing
- Dijon mustard — adds a delicious tang
- Swiss cheese — adds mild flavor and cheesy goodness
- Seasonings — sea salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, garlic powder
- Green beans — frozen or canned
- Butter — to top the stuffing layer
How to Make Swiss Chicken Casserole
Add the chicken to a casserole dish or 9×13 pan. Season with salt and pepper, and brush mustard over chicken. Mix the soup, half of the broth, Italian seasoning and garlic powder in a small bowl. Pour the sauce mixture over the chicken, and top with cheese slices and green beans. Sprinkle stuffing mix on top of the cheese layer, pour remaining broth on top, and dot with butter. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown, bubbly and chicken is 165 degrees on a meat thermometer.

Tips for Making Swiss Chicken Bake
Cut chicken into small, even pieces so it will cook evenly.
All ovens are different. I recommend using an instant read thermometer to check the temperature of the chicken.
You don’t need to cover the dish with foil unless the stuffing starts to brown too much.

Variations
If you want to use chicken breast halves or whole pieces, the casserole will take closer to an hour to bake.
You can sub chicken thighs or tenders.
I’m not the biggest fan of Swiss cheese, but it works well for this recipe. However, Muenster or Havarti would be good substitutions.
You can sub bread crumbs for the stuffing.
