    Bacon Cheddar Guacamole Burger

Hi friends! 'Tis the season for grilling, and we've been doing more than our fair share of it lately. We even had hamburgers twice this week, which isn't common for us. In fact, my kids were kind of surprised. But hey, the weather has been perfect for cooking outdoors, and nobody complained when we served these juicy Bacon Cheddar Guacamole Burgers!

Hamburger topped with cheddar cheese, guacamole and bacon on a bun

So May is National Burger Month, and I couldn't let the month go by without sharing one of our favorite burgers.  I think everyone has a favorite way to enjoy a burger, and my own preference is to load these babies up with as many fixin's as possible!

Most of the time, we serve plain cheeseburgers, although plain isn't really the right adjective. I serve lettuce, tomatoes, onions and pickles on the side and let everyone go to town with the toppings. Mine usually is the tallest!

But I wanted to shake things up a little bit this time, so I made my favorite guacamole and heated up some leftover bacon. Hubs fired up the grill, and we had these bacon cheddar guacamole burgers on the table in no time at all.

We stick to a simple recipe for the burgers. Growing up, we had what really amounted to meatloaf burgers since my mom used practically the same recipe. As much as I enjoyed those burgers, I've found that I like fewer ingredients in the meat because I want to really taste it. Then, I can alter the taste by adding different toppings.

Adding a little bit of water helps keep the meat nice and juicy. It may sound strange, but it works!

    Ingredients

    • 2 pounds ground chuck
    • 2 tablespoons dried minced onions
    • 1 teaspoon sea salt
    • ½ teaspoon black pepper
    • ¼ cup water

    Directions

Mix all ingredients together, and form into patties.
Grill or fry until the internal temperature is at or above 160 degrees.
Add cheddar cheese when burgers are about done, and serve when cheese is melted.
Top with your favorite guacamole and cooked bacon, and enjoy!

Personally, I think topping a burger with bacon, cheddar and guacamole is enough, but one of my girls added barbecue sauce to hers, and since she already had the guac on there, the burger just slid right out of the bun -- good times!

Since the kids are home for the summer, we made enough burgers to serve some for lunch, and they heat up really well on the stove, with maybe a little pat of butter for extra flavor. Perfect!

Thanks so much for stopping by today!

Looks so good. One of our favorite local places to eat makes the best darn hamburgs. I love them and I am not much of a hamburg person...

Thanks, Lori! I can't even remember where I first heard of this, but I've been using water for a few years now, and it does keep the burgers from drying out. 🙂
