Make sweet and salty Valentine’s Day crack candy with this easy Valentine crack recipe, aka saltine cracker toffy. A delicious and super simple treat everyone loves!

White chocolate Valentines crack candy on heart shaped plate.

Saltine cracker toffee is one of my all-time favorite treats because it is deliciously salty and sweet and crispy and oh, so good! It’s also a super easy recipe and requires only 4 basic ingredients.

This sweet treat goes by several names — Saltine cracker candy, Saltine toffee or crack candy because it is hard to stop munching once you start!

You have probably tried the Christmas crack. I make that using semi-sweet chocolate, but white chocolate is perfect for making Valentine’s Day crack as the red and pink candies really pop. For more Valentine treats, try my Valentine sugar cookies or this festive bark or puppy chow next!

Why you’ll love this Valentine’s Day Crack Candy

It’s quick and easy, very budget friendly and perfect for gifting. Just break the candy into smaller squares, add to cellophane bags, and share.

I don’t know anyone who wouldn’t love getting some homemade Valentine treats, and everyone loves this one!

saltines, white chocolate, butter, brown sugar, sprinkles.

What You Need

Here are the simple ingredients you need. Full amounts are in the printable recipe card below.

  • Butter — I always use salted, but unsalted butter is fine
  • Brown sugar — either light or dark
  • Saltine crackers — or generic soda crackers
  • White chocolate chips — preferably use a brand with cocoa butter for better melting and flavor
  • Decorations — Valentine’s Day sprinkles or sanding sugar or seasonal candy

How to Make Valentine Crack

First, line the crackers on a large baking sheet. Boil the butter and brown sugar until it starts to thicken, about 2 minutes. Pour the toffee mixture over the crackers, and bake until bubbly. Sprinkle the chocolate over the toffee layer, return to the oven, and use a knife or spatula to spread the melted chocolate evenly over the crackers. Add your desired toppings, allow to cool, and break into smaller pieces.

Quick Tips

Spray the foil with non stick spray so that the toffee doesn’t stick

Work quickly when spreading the caramel over the crackers to evenly coat everything–the caramel can set fast.

Do not over-bake the white chocolate chips, otherwise they’ll burn and not spread well.

Storage

Store the candy in an airtight container. It keeps for about 1 week — if it’s around that long! You can keep it at room temperature or in the fridge if your house is warm.

Variations

You can use candy melts or almond bark or regular chocolate chips, but the flavor will be slightly different.

For extra flavor, top the toffee bark with Valentine m&m’s.

Notes

Use aluminum foil or parchment paper and non stick spray for easy clean up.
Start timing the butter and brown sugar when the mixture reaches a full rolling boil.
Look for white chocolate chips made with cocoa butter for better melting. You can also use almond bark or candy melts, but the flavor will be a little different.
Do not over-bake the white chocolate chips. They will turn chalky and crumble, making them impossible to spread if over-baked.
Store saltine cracker toffee in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks at room temperature or in the refrigerator if your house is warm.
