Rustic Twig Snowflake Ornaments

Today, it is just about freezing here in the desert–of course, anything below 60 degrees is cold to me, but it really is cold today. The cold temperatures inspired me to create some rustic twig snowflake ornaments for our tree. I’m having a blast with thrifty decorating this year, and these twig ornaments were not only frugal, but they were also super easy and quick to make. I have a ton of spray-painted branches, and I just looked for some that were thin enough for this project.

Then, I broke the branches into smaller pieces and arranged them into the shapes I was looking for. I suppose these could also be called star shapes, but I’m going with snowflakes because I’m thinking about snow right now! 

I used hot glue to attach the twigs together. Because the pieces were small and light, they bonded right away. Then, I turned each snowflake over and glued a small ornament hook to the top of the tallest twig. I could have used some ribbon or twine, but our Christmas tree has thick branches, and hooks seem to work better.

I know these are supposed to be rustic, but if you’ve seen some of my other crafts, you know how much I love bling. So, of course, I had to add a little bling to each ornament–just enough to add some extra sparkle. 

These ornaments would also make pretty mantle decorations, and they could be hung just about anywhere. But they look so pretty on the Christmas tree.

The hardest part of the entire project was getting a good picture. It was hard for me to capture how the ornaments sparkle.

                   It’s almost enough to make me wish it would snow here .
