Mom’s stuffed celery recipe with cream cheese is an easy appetizer that takes minutes to make. This family favorite is super simple and perfect for holidays, parties and potlucks.

celery stuffed with cream cheese and chives.

Growing up, this easy recipe for stuffed celery was always on the menu for every major holiday — Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving. My mom and grandma also served this retro appetizer for parties and potlucks.

They used a mix of plain and flavored cream cheese, usually chive and onion and strawberry, to stuff the celery sticks. I loved helping out with this part! These days, I add my own seasoning mix to the cream cheese stuffed celery, but this easy appetizer is just as good, if not better that what I remember. My kids love this tasty snack as much as I do! Ingredients

While this can easily be a 2-ingredient appetizer, you can kick up the flavor with a few simple additions. Here’s what you need — full amounts are in the printable recipe card below.

  • Celery — look for ribs that are curved and not flat so they hold the filling. Rinse it thoroughly, and trim the ends.
  • Cream cheese — I use the regular, full fat variety, not the whipped kind. Let it soften at room temperature for a bit for easier mixing.
  • Seasoning — sea salt, black pepper and Herbes de Provence seasoning. You can sub Italian seasoning or dried parsley.
  • Chives — or scallions ( green onions ) for garnish and extra flavor

How to Make Stuffed Celery with Cream Cheese

To make the cream cheese filling, beat the softened cream cheese in a mixing bowl until fluffy. Then, mix in the seasonings. Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly in the celery, and slice into smaller pieces. Sprinkle the chopped chives over the celery, then cover, and refrigerate until ready to serve.

Recipe Tips

You can cut the celery stalks prior to stuffing, but it is actually a little easier to stuff them and slice them afterwards.

Make sure the celery is completely dry before adding the cream cheese filling.

Using room temperature cream cheese will make it easier to blend.

Storage

Store stuffed celery in an airtight container or on a tray covered with plastic wrap in your refrigerator. Refrigerate leftovers within 2 hours after serving. This delicious appetizer can be made a few hours ahead of time, but is best enjoyed the same day. It will keep for 2-3 days in the fridge, but the celery does get softer with time.
