Hi All!

I went shopping at the Dollar Store last week, and there were so many cute things to see. And, if you love making things over like I do, there were so many possibilities! Since I’m all about thrifty decorating, I always look at thrift store and Dollar Store merchandise and try to think how I can redo them. Of course, this means that it’s never a quick shopping trip, and Hubby is either napping in the car or trying to shoo me out the door!

Anyway, I bought some cheap plastic candy dishes, and after a couple of coats of spray paint, they turned into metallic Christmas Tree trays.

I did a similar makeover with some plastic leaf-shaped dishes for fall, so I knew right away what I wanted these Christmas Tree dishes to look like. Normally, you would use them to hold candy, but I find that the candy disappears almost instantly around here, and I’m left with empty candy trays sitting around. So, instead, I like to use these for holding pine cones, ornaments and whatever I can find.

I used Rust-Oleum paint in metallic finish gold and copper to give the trays a sort of rustic glam look. Gotta have some gold for the holiday season! I sprayed the bottom of the trays first, and then I painted the tops.

The gold paint dries almost instantly, but the copper usually takes a little bit longer. I found this out because I tend to be a little impatient when I’m working on projects, and I ended up with copper fingers. But, it does wash off easily!

I added some pine cone vase filler, cinnamon sticks and ornaments, and this little transformation was complete.

The ornaments and cinnamon sticks were from the Dollar Store too, and I already had the pine cones, so this is a very thrifty way to decorate for Christmas. And, it didn’t take long at all, which is a definite plus in my book.

I’ll be setting them out right after Thanksgiving, so I only have a few more days to wait. Honestly, where is the time going?!

Have you done any Dollar Store decorating lately?

Thanks for visiting! Have a great day!
