Hello There!

Over the weekend, I completed another furniture makeover on a side table we have in the family room. Now, some of you may be wondering how many tables we have, and I guess we do have a few. In fact, Hubby once referred to the front room as the Hall of Tables! Actually, most of them are small side tables that sit next to a sofa or chair, and are there to hold drinks, plants or photos.

This one came from Target a few years ago, and although it was functional, it was also drab and dark. It was also a bit too modern for me.

Instead of giving this table the rustic treatment, I decided to do something a little different and add a pop of color to the room. Even though the overall look of the room has a rustic vibe, I really want a custom look, and this includes adding some fun pieces into the mix. So, I decided to spray paint the table a fun shade of aqua blue!

When I first told the family of my evil plan, they were, shall we say, not on board. This is when you just have to go with your instincts and give it a try. After all, if you don’t like the results, it’s not a big deal to repaint a small table, especially when you are using spray paint. So, this is the same table after a getting made up with a coat of pretty blue paint!

I only used one coat of paint, and I purposely let some of the original black paint peek through the new finish. Even though it’s not really rustic, I wanted the table to look a little used and worn-in. I even thought about sanding it a little bit, but I wanted to wait and see how it fit in with the room first.

I left the table outside to dry and air out–I would love it if somebody came up with scented spray paint! The next day, I was loving the paint color, but I wanted to jazz the table up just a little bit more. Now, here’s where I almost got into trouble with the younglings, because I decided to stencil a design on the top with my trusty Sharpie. Yep–try explaining why it’s fine for Mom to use a marker on furniture while they can’t!

Sorry for the blurry shot here, but I was happily coloring away last night while watching the Golden Globes. This is the kind of project that makes you feel like a kid again! And, this is the table after its fab makeover!

Isn’t it cute? I really love it, and it adds a nice pop of color to the room. It also gives the room more of an eclectic feel, which is what I wanted. There are a couple of uneven spots in the design because one of the fur boys kept trying to get me to play ball with him while I was using the Sharpie. However, you really can’t see the imperfections unless you are really inspecting the table, and because the table is tucked into a corner and will be accessorized, I’m not worried about it.

Even the disbelieving members of my family were ultimately impressed. My little Diva even requested one just like it for her room, only in pink and black! This was also a really frugal decorating project–I only had to buy the spray paint, which was less than $4. I already had everything else.

What do you think? Do you like it? This just goes to show you that decorating does not have to be expensive, and paint can really be your best friend! Thanks for stopping by, and have a wonderful day!

Dee 🙂
