This crockpot cinnamon applesauce recipe is made with just four ingredients and no sugar added. Delicious, easy to make and perfect for fall!

Everyone needs to make applesauce in the crockpot at least once. Sure, you can buy it in the store, but it tastes nothing like homemade. I started making my own homemade applesauce about 10 years ago. My kids all learned how to make this easy recipe at school, back when they were in first grade, and all of them loved it.
I make a rustic chunky applesauce with skin, no peeling required! The kids remember peeling the apples before adding them to the slow cooker, but since I find the idea of peeling so many apples very unappealing, I leave the apple peels on. They still love it!
Why you’ll love this slow cooker applesauce recipe!

- Super easy. Just wash, chop and dump
- No sugar added
- Set it and forget it
- Makes your home smell amazing
- Perfect for using up apples from apple picking
Ingredients

Here are the simple ingredients for homemade applesauce. Full amounts and instructions are in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post.
- Apples — organic apples, if possible. Since we’re not adding sugar, I use a mix of sweeter apples like gala apples, honeycrisp and cosmic crisp. Sometimes, I throw in a Granny Smith or two.
- Ground cinnamon — I use quite a bit for flavor
- Lemon juice — adds a bright flavor and helps enhances the color
- Water — to thin out the sauce a little
How to Make Crockpot Applesauce
Wash, core and cut apples into small pieces, and throw them into the slow cooker. Then, add the cinnamon, water and a tiny bit of fresh lemon juice.
After 3 hours on high, the apples are soft enough to mash with a potato masher. The kids love this part! I did use my immersion blender to make the applesauce a little smoother, but this step is optional.
And that’s all there is to making your own homemade crockpot applesauce. Seriously, how easy it that?! And let me tell you, the house smells amazing while it’s cooking. It’s like an all-natural air freshener!

Tips for Homemade Applesauce
When you leave the skins on, the texture is rustic and not completely smooth. Use an immersion blender or transfer cooled apple sauce to a blender if you want a smoother texture.
Use a blend of sweet apples for unsweetened applesauce. Or, add a little brown sugar or maple syrup if needed.
Store the finished applesauce in an airtight container in your refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. You can freeze applesauce in a freezer safe container for up to 3 months.
