Why you’ll love this delicious quick bread

It’s an easy one-bowl recipe you can make with simple ingredients you probably have on hand.
The bread stays soft and moist for days — if it lasts that long!
It’s a great way to use up ripe bananas and get your chocolate fix at the same time!

What you Need
Here are the basic ingredients. Full amounts are always listed in the printable recipe card below.
- Ripe bananas — with plenty of brown spots. overripe bananas are ideal.
- Eggs
- Flour — regular all purpose flour
- Unsweetened Cocoa powder — I always use Dutch process
- Granulated sugar — for sweetness
- Milk — helps keep the bread moist
- Oil — Vegetable oil or any neutral flavored oil helps the bread stay softer than using melted butter.
- Vanilla extract — for flavor
- Cinnamon — for a little extra flavor
- Sea salt — or kosher salt
- Baking powder and soda — using both helps the bread rise
- Chocolate chips — a combo of mini and regular chips
- Loaf pan — I use a 10×5 pan
How to Make Chocolate Banana Bread
First, you’ll whisk the eggs in a large mixing bowl, then mash bananas into the eggs. Add the wet ingredients and dry ingredients. I like to sift in the cocoa powder to make sure there are no lumps. Mix the batter until just combined, and fold in some of the chocolate morsels. Pour the batter into a prepared loaf pan, top with more chips, and bake for 60 minutes or until a toothpick comes out mostly clean.

Quick Tips
As with any quick bread recipe, you don’t want to over mix the batter. There may be a few small banana lumps, but this is fine.
I know it’s an extra step, but sifting the cocoa keeps it from clumping up in the batter.
I love using Dutch process cocoa powder for the stronger chocolate flavor. You will also get a nicer rise due to the amount of baking powder in this recipe. But, you can use regular if that’s what you have.

Storage
Store this banana chocolate bread in an airtight container at room temperature. I like to place a paper towel under the bread to help absorb excess moisture. It stays fresh for 3-5 days. You can pop it in the freezer for up to 3 months for best taste and texture.
