We only have a few more days until Christmas, but I wanted to share an easy, ornament craft that you can make in only a few minutes. And, if you’re like me, you still have a lot to do before the big day! I shared this over at PinkWhen last month, but because this is a great last-minute gift, I’m sharing it here too! If you know a wine lover or you are a wine lover, this DIY wine cork grape ornament craft is for you!
I saw an ornament made out of wine corks in the store last month when we were out Christmas shopping, and I thought it was super cute. And it wasn’t exactly cheap, either. But if you have wine corks in your house, you’ve already got the main materials right there, and this DIY version is much cheaper. I use leftover corks for vase filler all the time, so I always have a few on hand. And even if you don’t have wine corks, you can always get them from the store. This definitely qualifies as a quick and easy craft, and it took me less than an hour to put together. In fact, it was more like a half an hour — it’s that easy. And you only need a few things to make this!
DIY Wine Cork Grape Ornament
9 wine corks
Hot glue gun
Paint
Glitter
Ribbon
Faux green leaves (optional)
First, you have to line the corks up in the pattern of your choice. I didn’t want a super wide ornament, so I used three corks at the top, then two rows of two corks and finally, one cork on top of another.
Then, I started at the top row, and I used a glue gun to attach the first three corks together at the sides. I flipped them so that they were laying flat, and then I began gluing the rest of the corks on top of each other. It’s almost like building a reverse pyramid.
Then, I painted the front part of the corks with purple craft paint, and before the paint dried, I sprinkled a little pit of very fine purple glitter over the paint. I’m usually not a fan of glitter, but this really makes the grapes sparkle instead of looking flat. Plus, it looks great on the tree!
I finished the ornament by gluing some purple ribbon to the top and attaching a green leaf over the ribbon. I just used part of some greenery that I had, so this is an optional step, but it really looks like a grape vine. Plus, with all of the purple, I think the green adds a nice pop of color.
You can make this wine cork grape ornament for your own tree or gift it to the wine connoisseurs in your life, maybe even along with a bottle of their favorite wine or in a gift basket. It would make a fun hostess gift, as well.
Thanks so much for taking the time to visit. Have a wonderful day!
