A Dip Made with Dill Pickles

If you love pickles, you are going to love this easy recipe. As a huge dill pickle lover, I can assure you that this creamy dill pickle dip is the perfect snack for pickle lovers everywhere! It reminds me of my favorite ham pickle rollups without the ham.

This easy dip has just the right amount of pickle flavor. It’s not too sour or too sweet, and it has just the right amount of crunch. It’s smooth, creamy and absolutely delicious!

The best part is you can make this easy appetizer in a few minutes. Some call it 5 minute pickle dip, although it does take a little bit longer than that! It’s the perfect party dip or a delicious chip dip whenever you have the munchies. If you love dill, check out my creamy dill dip or cucumber dill dip next.

Ingredient Notes

Here’s a quick list of the ingredients. Full amounts are in the printable recipe card below.

  • Cream cheese — at room temperature for easy mixing
  • Sour cream — adds a delicious tang
  • Dill pickles — I love Polish pickles, but any kind will work. If you have a Polish grocery store or Polish deli, I highly recommend trying one of their brands.
  • Pickle juice — pickle brine straight from the jar
  • Fresh dill — I love the flavor of fresh dill, but you can use dry dill in a pinch.
  • Garlic powder — for a little extra flavor.

How to Make Dill Pickle Dip

First, beat the softened cream cheese in a medium bowl with an electric mixer until smooth. Then, add the sour cream and mix until well combined.

Next, get out your cutting board, and chop up the pickles into small pieces. Tip — the easiest way to chop whole pickles is to cut them lengthwise first. Then, chop the long slices into smaller pieces.

Add the chopped pickles to the cream cheese mixture. Then, add the juice and the remaining ingredients to the mixing bowl. Stir with a large spoon until well blended.

How to Store

Cover the dip with plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator until ready to serve. Transfer to a serving bowl right before serving.

Although you can dig in right away, I highly recommend letting the dip sit for a couple of hours before serving. The flavors develop the longer it sits. In fact, it tastes even better the next day!

Be sure to refrigerate any leftover dip with 2 hours in an airtight container. It keeps for about 4 days — if there is any left!

Serving Suggestions

Serve this tangy dip with your favorite dippers — potato chips, pretzels, crackers, pita chips or your favorite fresh vegetables. We love it with fresh veggies such as carrot slices, celery, sliced bell peppers or mini peppers and cucumbers, too. You can even use it as a dipping sauce for your favorite snacks or slather it on sandwiches and burgers.

Recipe Tips

I use fresh dill, but you can use dried dill if you like. Start with 2 teaspoons and go from there.

Sub Greek yogurt for the sour cream. If you want a creamier texture, use a mix of half mayonnaise and half sour cream with the cream cheese base.

You can add more chopped pickles, and enough juice to suit your tastes. If you’re not a huge pickle fan, I recommend starting out with 2 tablespoons and adding more if you like.

Chopped red or green onions will add flavor and crunch. Love ranch? Sprinkle in ranch seasoning mix, to taste.

The flavor will vary with the kind of pickles you use.
