Easy Fall Puppy Chow Snack, or Muddy Buddies, is made with Chex cereal, peanut butter, chocolate and colorful fall and Halloween candies. Perfect for munching!

My kids go crazy for this easy fall snack mix. They love Monster Munch Snack Mix, but Puppy chow — aka muddy buddies — is an amazing blend of salty and sweet that’s super hard to resist. Once you start munching, it’s hard to stop!

Sometimes, we make Oreo Puppy Chow, but the basic recipe for puppy chow is super simple, and you only need a few ingredients to make it. Chances are, you already have what you need in your pantry!

  • Rice Chex cereal
  • Butter
  • Peanut butter
  • Chocolate chips
  • Vanilla
  • Powdered sugar

How to Make Fall Puppy Chow

First, melt the peanut butter, butter and chocolate chip morsels in your microwave for about 30 seconds in a large mixing bowl. Stir, and melt for another 30 seconds.

You can also do this part on the stove if you want. I just find it’s easier using the microwave.

Next, add some vanilla and Rice Chex cereal. Gently stir the cereal until it’s well coated with chocolate.

Now, comes the fun part!

Take a large zip top bag — a gallon freezer bag, and open it up. Now, add part of the powdered sugar to the bottom of the bag.

Spoon the Rice Chex cereal into the bag. Then, add the rest of the powdered sugar on top. This makes it easier to coat it all with powdered sugar.

Next, close the bag up so the powdered sugar doesn’t fly everywhere, and shake it until the cereal is coated with powdered sugar.

Now, you just pour the cereal into a large serving bowl. Add some of your favorite fall candies, and you’re ready to munch!

We used a mix of candy corn, candy pumpkins, fall and Halloween M & M’s. You can pretty much use your favorite fall candies here or even throw in some pretzels for extra crunch.

The only problem with this easy snack mix is it’s hard to stop eating once you start. And believe me, it goes super fast!

You can make this fall or Halloween snack for the kiddos anytime. Or, you can serve it to friends or family for a Halloween party or get together, along with Oreo Pumpkin Cookies, Ghost Cookies, Butterscotch Haystacks and Halloween Marshmallow Pops.

Just be sure to save some for yourself!
