S’mores Muddy Buddies

First, let me be clear that this puppy chow recipe is for people, not dogs! I always get comments about this. Some of you call this delicious treat muddy buddies, some call it puppy chow.

We made this s’mores version to taste like the classic campfire treat. And, it does! But it’s a lot less messy, so it’s perfect for munching at parties, movie nights, game night or as a fun after school snack or quick dessert.

Why you’ll love this easy recipe!

It’s a no bake dessert made with simple ingredients that takes minutes to make.

Has all of the flavors of classic s’mores without the mess.

This puppy chow is made without peanut butter — just chocolate!

Ingredients

rice chex, chocolate chips, butter, marshmallow, vanilla, graham crackers, powdered sugar.

Here’s what you need to make it. You’ll find complete amounts and detailed instructions in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post.

  • Rice Chex — the base of the snack
  • Chocolate chips — I personally prefer semi sweet chocolate so the snack isn’t too sweet. You can use milk chocolate if you want
  • Butter — for melting the chips
  • Marshmallow creme — or marshmallow fluff
  • Vanilla extract — adds flavor
  • Powdered sugar — to coat the cereal mixture
  • Graham crackers — crush them to add flavor and texture
  • Mini marshmallows — add them at the end for more flavor

How to Make S’mores Puppy Chow

First, you gradually melt the butter and chocolate chips in a large bowl in the microwave in 30-second increments. Stir after each interval until melted. Stir the vanilla and marshmallow cream into the chocolate mixture, then mix in the cereal. Use a gallon freezer bag to coat the cereal mixture plus marshmallows, more chocolate chips and graham crackers in powdered sugar.

Quick Tip

Stir after each microwave interval to avoid having the chocolate seize.ย

Use a soft rubber spatula and gently mix the Rice Chex cereal into the melted chocolate mixture to avoid crumbling or breaking the cereal.

Instead of adding all the powdered sugar at once, add in half of the powdered sugar to the bottom of the ziplock baggie before adding in the chocolate covered cereal mixture for easier distribution.

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week.
