Remember this simple chocolate witches hats recipe from back in the day? This is one Halloween dessert that has pretty much been around forever, at least since I was a kid!
It’s been a long time since I made these Halloween witch cookies, so It was definitely time to make them again. My daughter and I had a lot of fun making these, and I think you will, too!
Why you’ll love these Witches Hat Cookies!

- Made with 3 basic ingredients — no baking required!
- Easy enough for kids to make with minimal supervision
- Adds a fun retro vibe to any Halloween party or movie night
Ingredients for Witches Hats

You can find complete amounts and directions in the printable recipe card below.
- Fudge stripe cookies — or generic equivalent
- Hershey’s kisses — We used milk chocolate candy to match the cookies, but you could use dark chocolate
- Icing — to glue the candy to the cookies. You can use food coloring to make whatever colors you want or buy tubes of decorators icing
- Decorations — optional, but it’s fun to add Halloween sprinkles or sanding sugar to make the hats super cute!
How to Make Witch Hat Cookies
First, get your frosting ready. Mix the food coloring with vanilla frosting. Or grab whatever frosting you are using. Pipe a dab of icing around the hole on the fudge side of the cookie. Gently press a Hershey kiss onto the frosting. Then, pipe a bow or buckle around the bottom of each kiss, and decorate the witches’ hats with sprinkles, if desired.

Tips for Cute Cookies
If you’re buying icing, stick with the regular kind and not gel icing. The candy doesn’t stick as well with the gel.
Pipe bows or buckles using a thin piping tip.
Add a small dot of icing to affix Halloween sprinkles around the base of the hats and on the tip of the hats.

Variations
You can use almost any flat, round cookie here. Oreo cookies work well. Or, you can make your own chocolate cookies, like my cake mix cookies.
