This easy avocado cottage cheese dip recipe combines mashed avocados with creamy cottage cheese for a delicious twist on regular guacamole. Perfect for snacking!

I got this easy recipe for avocado dip with cottage cheese from my grandma’s recipe collection a few years ago. Cottage cheese was very popular back in the day, just as it is now. Everything old is new again!
This easy appetizer is a simple blend of avocado and cottage cheese with green chiles and spices. It’s basically a super simple guacamole with extra protein.
Cottage cheese adds texture, a tangier flavor and extra creaminess, making this delicious dip perfect for game day, Cinco de Mayo or as a high-protein snack anytime. Try my cottage cheese scrambled eggs next!

What You Need
Here’s a quick list of what you need for the dip. Full amounts are in the printable recipe card below.
- Ripe Avocados — You’ll need 3 or 4 medium ones that are ripe and ready to use. They should be soft, not mushy, and the stem end should be green underneath and not brown.
- Cottage cheese — your favorite brand. Either small curd or large curd
- Canned green chiles — choose either mild or hot
- Hot sauce — for a little kick. You can use taco sauce or sriracha or your favorite sauce here.
- Spices — sea salt, black pepper, garlic powder
- Lime juice — to prevent the dip from turning brown. Sub lemon juice if you don’t have lime.
How to Make Avocado Cottage Cheese Dip
Mash the avocado in a mixing bowl using a potato masher or fork. Add the lime juice, chiles and spices. Then, mix in the cottage cheese until blended. Refrigerate until ready to serve, and transfer to a serving bowl when you’re ready to eat!

Serving Suggestions
We love tortilla chips for dipping, but you can use Scoops or Fritos, pita chips or potato chips. Fresh veggies, such as bell pepper strips, carrots, cauliflower and broccoli are also good with this cottage cheese avocado dip. It also makes a great spread on toast or a topping for tacos!

Storage
Store leftover dip in the fridge in an airtight container, or cover the bowl with plastic wrap. It keeps for 3-4 days before it gets a little too watery. I don’t recommend freezing the dip.
Quick Tips
You can adjust the heat level by using mild or hot chiles or a different flavor of hot sauce.
For a smoother dip, blend the ingredients in a blender or food processor instead of mashing.
