Hi There!
I don’t usually do too much decorating for Valentine’s Day, except for putting up whatever cute crafts the kids create. But when I was cleaning out my closet, I found this red pillow cover that I got on clearance a while ago, and I thought it would be nice to make a cute Valentine’s Day pillow. I was originally planning to decorate this pillow cover for Christmas, but we have some nice Christmas pillows, and I ran out of time to do anything with this.

I’ve been seeing so many different heart pillows around, and I thought it would be easy enough to make my own heart pillow by stamping a heart shape on the fabric with craft paint. I took one of the existing pillows from the couch and slipped it into the pillow cover. Because I wouldn’t be using a lot of paint, I wasn’t worried about it seeping into the fabric and messing up the pillow.

Instead of using a stencil, I used a wooden heart, which is another project I’m working on, as a guide. It was the perfect size for the pillow.

After I had it centered, I took a wine cork, loaded it with some paint and began stamping around the edge of the heart. I’m a big fan of crafting with materials I already have on hand, and I also thought that the corks would work better than using a stencil brush.

I wasn’t trying to get perfect coverage, and I figured I could easily go back and add a little more paint to the bare spots.

After I had a basic outline of the heart, I filled the center with a mix of gold and white circles. Actually, there are more white circles, but I thought adding a little gold made the design a little more interesting and gave it a touch of whimsy. Because the paint isn’t totally even, it looks like there are more colors than there really are.

Hubby thought that I sewed buttons on the cover, but I reminded him that I don’t sew. I’m really happy with the way the pillow turned out, and I also love that I basically got a cute heart pillow without spending any money!
