What You Need
Here are the 3 basic ingredients. Full amounts and instructions are in the printable recipe card below.
- Box of white cake mix — any brand
- Canned pie filling — I used blueberry and strawberry, but cherry pie filling and blackberry filling would work
- Butter — either salted or unsalted butter
How to Make Red, White and Blue Dump Cake
First, grease the baking dish. Then, add spoonfuls of blueberry and strawberry pie filling. Alternate the fillings so you will get both flavors in every serving. Add the dry cake mix on top of the pie filling. Top with pats of butter, and bake for 45-50 minutes in a preheated oven until golden brown and bubbly.

As the cake bakes, the butter melts into the cake mix and forms a delicious, flaky, buttery crust. It’s like a cobbler, but a lot easier. We like to top the cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and patriotic sprinkles for a little extra sparkle. So good!

Quick Tips
You can use melted butter if you like, but I feel that slicing the butter works better. Grating butter is also an option!
Store leftovers in an airtight container in your fridge.
