Learn how to cook ham slices in the oven with this easy recipe for baked ham. It’s the easiest way to reheat cooked ham for the holidays or for a quick dinner anytime.

baked ham slices with brown sugar in baking dish.

I did something completely different with our holiday hams this year. Instead of cooking a whole ham or half a ham, I cut slices of ham off the bone and baked them in the oven.

Honestly, it was the quickest and easiest ham dinner I have ever made. We loved this easy ham recipe so much that I started buying one regularly to use for my son’s favorite sandwiches or for a super easy dinner. To be clear, this is not a ham steak recipe, although you can use the same cooking method.

Why you’ll love this easy recipe!

It’s foolproof. Just slice and bake.

No basting, no heavy lifting, no guessing the cooking time.

It’s perfect for a small holiday dinner or when you have multiple entrees for the main course.

cooked spiral ham, brown sugar, honey, water.

What You Need

Here are the ingredients I use. You can find the full amounts in the printable recipe at the bottom of the post.

  • Fully cooked spiral ham — I love the uncured ham from Sprouts, but a cured ham is fine. You can even buy a smaller ham and slice it yourself
  • Brown sugar and honey — for that classic flavor
  • Water — helps prevent the ham from drying out as it bakes

How to Cook Ham Slices in the Oven

Just arrange the slices in a baking dish. Mix the brown sugar and honey together, and sprinkle on top of the ham. Add a little water, then cover and bake. It takes about 30 minutes, tops!

Quick Tips

You can use the glaze packet that comes with the ham if you prefer. During the summer months, I like to brush the slices with BBQ sauce.

If you have a lot of ham, you can use a sheet pan. You can also freeze what you don’t use for later.

Learn how to cook ham slices in the oven with this easy recipe for baked ham. It's the easiest way to reheat cooked ham for the holidays or for a quick dinner anytime.
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 20 minutes
Total Time: 30 minutes
Servings: 10

Ingredients

  • 4 pound ham fully cooked, spiral cut
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • ¼ cup water

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 300℉
  • Cut slices of ham off the bone, and place in 13×9 baking dish. They can overlap a little
  • Mix the brown sugar and honey together, and sprinkle over the ham and between layers if overlapping
  • Add water to the bottom of the baking dish
  • Cover pan with aluminum foil, and bake in preheated oven for 20-30 minutes or until heated through. You can remove foil halfway through the baking time if desired. Serve warm

Notes

If you have a larger ham, you can use a baking sheet.
You can use the glaze from the ham if you prefer. We love using BBQ sauce for seasoning in the summer.
Store leftovers in the refrigerator in an airtight container for 3-4 days. You can freeze extra ham for up to 3 months for best taste.
