Asparagus on the Griddle

We make this easy recipe for asparagus on the Blackstone several times a week. It’s super simple, incredibly quick and turns out perfectly cooked every time. Grilled asparagus is truly one of my family’s favorite summer side dishes, and even my pickiest eater goes backs for seconds!

We like to pair it with our favorite Blackstone recipes like steak, burgers, pork chops, chicken and shrimp. Add corn or potatoes, and you have a complete meal cooked completely on the flat top grill.

fresh bunch of asparagus, avocado oil and spices.

Ingredient Notes

Here’s everything you need for this easy griddle recipe. Full amounts are in the printable recipe card below.

  • Fresh asparagus — I prefer thin asparagus spears as they cook faster and are more tender and easier to eat than the thicker ones. Look for asparagus that is firm and not wilting.
  • Seasonings — a simple blend of sea salt, black pepper, garlic powder and onion powder
  • Avocado oil — helps the seasonings stick and coats the griddle surface. You can use vegetable oil or any oil with a high smoke point.

How to Cook Asparagus on the Blackstone

First, rinse and trim the spears. Then, add oil, season, and toss to coat. Place asparagus on a preheated griddle, and cook on medium heat for about 3-4 minutes or until tender crisp. How long to cook asparagus on Blackstone really depends on the thickness and how crisp you like your veggies.

Recipe Tips

An easy way to trim asparagus is to bend the spears, holding both ends, and snap them where they bend. You can trim the ends with a knife.

If you want very tender asparagus, you can cook for another minute or two on the griddle.

For extra flavor, sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese over the cooked veggies before serving.

Storage

Store leftover asparagus in an airtight container in your refrigerator for 3-4 days. We like to add some to salads and pasta! You can also freeze leftovers for up to 3 months.

More Ways to Enjoy Asparagus

When it’s not grilling season, we cook it in the microwave, on the stove or in the oven with prosciutto.
