A huge thanks to Nature’s Harvest® for sponsoring this post! As always, all opinions are completely my own.
Hey there! My youngest kiddo has always been a pretty good eater, and he was never that picky about his food — until recently. The other day, he even declared he would only eat certain kinds of bread and definitely nothing that had seeds, visible grains or anything like that.
I discovered a long time ago that when it comes to picky kids, you just have to get creative. So today, we created our own sandwich art and turned a plain ham and cheese sandwich into a fun rocket ship that is blasting off into space. And my picky little person ate the whole thing right up!
My little guy loves anything to do with space, flying, and well, you get the idea. I seriously thought about attempting something from Star Wars, but I wanted him to eat the food and not play with it.
I also used Nature’s Harvest® Honey Wheat bread, which has all of the goodness of whole grains without the visible seeds and rough texture that my picky eater avoids.
How to Create Sandwich Art
I added the ham and cheese, and then I cut the crusts off to form a rather rough rocket shape.
I used my little star cutter to cut stars out of thin slices of cheddar and provolone cheese, and my son helped with this part. Of course, he had to sample a few stars!
We used blueberries for the background and added the stars on top. we also used cut grapes and thin strips of cheese to embellish the rocket.
Isn’t it cute? And like I said, my son ate it all up without any complaints, which is always a plus!
And right now, Nature’s Harvest is only $1.97 at Walmart, so you can get a bread with at least 8 grams of whole grains in every serving without breaking the bank. Since I have five kids, that’s kind of a big deal for me!
Also, there’s no artificial flavors, colors or high-fructose corn syrup to worry about, and there are several varieties to choose from, all of which carry the whole-grain stamp.
Nature’s Harvest recently did a survey and it seems almost 75 percent of the moms surveyed have gotten creative with food, so I know I’m not alone!
Do you ever make sandwich art for your kids? If so, here’s a fun chance to show it off.
For your chance to win some fun prizes, including a kitchen crash with Chef Kelsey Nixon, head on over to the Nature’s Harvest Facebook Page and share your sandwich art.
The brand is also conducting a short survey on whole grains, and if you’re one of the first 100 people to complete the survey, you can win a $5 Walmart giftcard. (Must be at least 18 years old and a U.S. citizen to qualify)
So, let me know if you plan on entering the contest so that I can go check out your sandwich art project.
Have a fun day!
