Funfetti cake batter dip or Dunkaroo dip is an easy recipe that tastes like one of everyone’s favorite childhood snacks back in the day.

If you were a kid in the 1990s or early 2000s, you may have had the little blue box tucked into your lunch box. Or, you may have packed the popular snack into a lunch box for your kiddos!

Why you’ll love this family favorite recipe!

This easy cake batter dip recipe has all of the flavors from the popular dip you remember. My kids absolutely love it.

This is the perfect party dip for birthday parties, holidays, or a baby shower or Mother’s Day. It even makes a fun after school snack for kids of all ages!

What You Need

Here are the basics. Full amounts are listed in the printable recipe card below.

  • A box of Funfetti cake mix
  • Cool Whip — I prefer regular Cool Whip over light Cool Whip
  • Vanilla Yogurt — Use regular yogurt. Greek yogurt is a little too thick
  • Rainbow sprinkles — use your favorite sprinkles
  • Vanilla extract — adds more flavor, but isn’t absolutely necessary

How to Make Dunkaroo Dip

First, you will need to heat treat the raw cake mix. This step is necessary to get rid of any harmful bacteria in the raw flour. Spread the dry cake mix evenly onto a rimmed baking sheet lined with parchment paper or aluminum foil

Bake the cake mix in a 350 degree oven for 5 minutes or until it reaches 165 degrees. Or, microwave the cake mix in 30-second increments, stirring after each increment for a total of 1-2 minutes, or until the cake mix reaches 165 degrees.

Stir the treated cake mix, and allow to cool completely. Now, you can assemble the dip! Add the vanilla yogurt to a large mixing bowl. Stir in the vanilla extract until well combined.

Next, add the cake mix and mix with a large spoon or hand mixer until well blended. Stir in the rainbow sprinkles, and mix again.

Next, gently fold in the thawed whipped topping, and mix until the ingredients are well blended. The Funfetti cake dip is rich and thick. If you want a thinner dip, you can add a tablespoon or 2 of milk or heavy cream.

Storage Tips

Cover the dip with plastic wrap or place in an airtight container in your refrigerator until ready to serve. Store any leftover cake batter dip in an airtight container for up to 4 days. I don’t recommend freezing the dip.

What to serve with Cake Batter Dip

Serve this delicious dip with your favorite dippers! My kids love animal crackers, circus crackers, graham crackers, Teddy Grahams and vanilla wafers. This also makes a delicious fruit dip for fresh fruit. We love fresh strawberries, apple slices and pineapple slices!

Variations

If you can’t find Funfetti cake mix or another brand of cake mix with sprinkles, use a box of white cake mix and add more colorful sprinkles to the mixture.

Make Funfetti dip with frosting if you can’t find the yogurt. You can use vanilla frosting or Dunkaroo frosting.

Or, make it with pudding in place of the yogurt. Be sure you are using ready made pudding and not the dry mix.
