This super easy root beer float cake is the latest pop cake recipe the kids and I have made. It may seem hard to believe, but all you need for this 2 ingredient cake recipe is a box of chocolate cake mix and some root beer!

No eggs, no butter, no oil. Really!

My youngest kiddo has been after me to make this root beer cake for a long time. He loves root beer, and he always orders a glass when we eat out. Typically, we don't keep pop in the house, so it was a treat for him when we bought some for this cake!

How to Make a 2 Ingredient Cake with Cake Mix and Soda

All you do is add the dry cake mix to a mixing bowl. Then, you pour the root beer into the bowl. The batter will bubble and foam up, but it will look like regular cake batter when you mix it.

pour root beer into cake mix

You don't even need an electric mixer when you make soda cakes. Just stir the batter with a spatula or large spoon until it's smooth.

mix root beer and cake mix in a mixing bowl

Then, pour the chocolate cake batter into a lightly greased cake pan, and bake the cake for about 30 minutes.  Let the cake cool completely, and frost it with your favorite frosting.

pour cake batter into 9 x 13 baking pan

Because this root beer float cake is so light, I used Cool Whip to frost it. We also added some sprinkles, whipped cream and maraschino cherries -- just like a root beer float!

Make it a Weight Watchers Cake Recipe

You easily make this dessert weight watchers friendly by using diet pop and light whipped topping. Or, use whatever frosting you want!
