I love making fresh peach crisp with fresh summer peaches, but this easy peach dumpling recipe is perfect when you’re short on time.

And, there is absolutely nothing wrong with a short cut now and then! If you enjoy a good fruit dumpling, you may want to try my apple version of this peach dumplings recipe — crescent roll apple dumplings. I based this peach version on those!

Ingredients

You only need a few ingredients for this peach crescent dumplings recipe. You can find them in most grocery stores.

  • Large ripe peaches — firm ones work best
  • Crescent roll dough
  • Butter — I use salted butter
  • Brown sugar — dark brown sugar or light brown sugar
  • Vanilla extract
  • Ground cinnamon — adds extra flavor
  • Lemon lime soda — the secret ingredient to making an easy and delicious caramel sauce!

How to Make Crescent Roll Peach Dumplings

First, preheat your oven to 350 degrees f. Next, grease a 9 x 13 baking pan with butter or nonstick cooking spray.

Wash, peel and pit your peaches. Personally, I find the easiest way to peel peaches is to use a paring knife and peel them like an apple. This works best if they are slightly firm, not when they are mushy.

For softer peaches, the skins peel right off. Then, slice the peach into 8 slices, and sprinkle with cinnamon.

Gently separate crescent dough into individual triangles. You should get 8 triangles from each can of dough. Then, place a peach slice on the wide end of the triangle, and roll the dough up until the peach slice is covered.

Place the peach dumplings into the prepared baking dish in an even layer. Leave a little room between each dumpling. They puff up as they bake.

Next, melt butter and brown sugar in a small pot on low heat to medium heat on your stove.

Stir the butter brown sugar mixture until it’s completely melted. When it starts to bubble, turn the heat off. Then, stir in the vanilla extract.

Then, pour the caramel sauce over the dumplings. You can spoon the sauce over the dumplings if that’s easier.

Just make sure the sauce covers the bottom of the pan, and there is sauce on top of the dumplings.

Finally, pour the can of Sprite or Mountain Dew around the edges of the pan and between the dumplings.

Try not to get soda on top of the dumplings, as it may wash off the caramel sauce. Pour enough soda in the pan to cover the sides of the dumplings.

Don’t completely cover the dumplings with Sprite as it will make them too soft and mushy. They tops will bake up nice and crisp!

Cooking Time

Bake the dumplings in a preheated oven for 30 minutes. Test for doneness by inserting a knife or fork into the middle of the dumplings.

They should be fork tender and the tops should be crisp. The caramel sauce should be reduced and bubbly.

Serve these warm dumplings with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a dollop of whipped cream, and you’ve got yourself a tasty dessert that everyone will love!

How to Store

You can keep this peachy dessert on the counter at room temperature for a few hours. Pop it into the fridge overnight.

You can just cover the baking dish with plastic wrap or aluminum foil or transfer the peachy dumplings into an airtight container. This delicious dessert should keep for two days before it gets soggy.

You can reheat this peach dumpling dessert in the oven or even in the microwave. Like most peach recipes, these dumplings are best served warm.

Variations

If you don’t have any fresh peaches, canned peaches and frozen peaches will work for this easy recipe.

You can use puff pastry instead of crescent roll dough. Just don’t use biscuit dough, as the results won’t be the same.

For larger dumplings, you can use fresh peach quarters if you like.

Use your choice of lemon lime soda. Whether it’s Sprite, Mountain Dew, 7 up or Ginger Ale, it’ll work. You can even try using diet soda!

Expert Tips

Here are few tips for perfect dumplings.

Be sure the caramel sauce covers the bottom of the pan and the tops of the dumplings.

Don’t pour the can of Sprite on top of the dumplings. The tops won’t get crisp and golden brown if they’re immersed in liquid.

Allow the dessert to cool slightly before serving for best taste.
