How to Use Yummly and Why I Love It

Hi friends! Have you heard about Yummly yet? You may have heard people talking about it or seen reviews by other bloggers. Or, maybe someone mentioned something about yumming a recipe.

This was me about a month or so ago. I’d heard people talking about it, read reviews and had people telling me that they were yumming my recipes, but I was totally clueless. And honestly, I really wasn’t that thrilled to find yet another form of social media that I would have to learn. 

But eventually, I gave in, and let me tell ya, I am completely hooked! I did have a little trouble in the beginning, so I thought I’d talk a little about how to use Yummly and why I love it. Oh, this Oreo shake is one of my most popular recipes on the site!

Tips for getting started on Yummly

First, head on over to Yummly and create an account. This will be your personal Recipe Box, and if you’re a blogger, you’ll get a publisher page a little later. When you fill out your profile, you can select your personal food preferences, including any allergies or dietary restrictions you may have. 

And, this is what I think sets Yummly apart from other sites! You’ll start to get recommendations based upon your profile, and you can start searching for recipes and Yumming your favorites right away.

Creating a Publisher Page

You’ll see a drop-down menu on the upper right-hand corner of the main page, and you can view all about setting up your publisher page there. You’ll also have to install a Yum button on your blog or you can get one through a social sharing service. 

The directions are all there, and they vary depending upon what blog platform you use. I use a sharing widget, so my buttons are located underneath my blog posts, and if you click on the little plus sign, you’ll get to the Yum button by scrolling down.

Once you have a Yum button somewhere on your blog, you can add your recipes to Yummly, and a publisher page will be created for you. And this brings me to my next point!

Why Join Yummly?

I mentioned that I had trouble in the beginning, and what happened is that my recipes were being added to my recipe box, but they weren’t being processed. See, Yummly calculates nutritional value and puts everything from your post into an awesome little recipe-type card that is then shared with everyone. 

The FAQ page says it may take a few days to process recipes, and I let it go at that. Dumb, dumb, dumb! So finally, I remembered to check in, and I saw that the recipes still weren’t processed, and I did a very unusual thing for me — I contacted the Help Desk, which I should say that I hardly ever do. Anywhere.

And here’s what I love about Yummly — A very nice person got back to me right away. Really! My recipes were processed, and I now had this awesome publisher page filled with recipes from my blog. And they were Yummed. Loved. Shared. And my blog traffic skyrocketed. Really!

Another reason why I’m loving Yummly is that it’s all about the food, so searching for recipes is super easy.You can narrow your search by ingredient, type of cuisine or season. You can even limit your search to just blogs. And for recipes on the go, you can get the free Yummly App!

I created an account with Yummly a bit ago, but haven't done much with it yet. Thanks for the reminder to get going with it. Visiting today from the Sits Sharefest -but I really like your blog, and I am here quite a bit!

I've heard of Yummly too, but never even looked into it. Sounds like maybe a Pinterest for recipes? I'm gonna look into it, thanks so much for this great post!!

Dee, thank you so much! I have been right where you were, not knowing why I would want to add Yummly to all my other social media. I am a contributor on a food blog and she told us that we really should open an account because her traffic increased exponentially after she did. Now I know that I have to do this!
