If you are looking for easy cake recipes or a simple dessert recipe, you are going to love this easy pineapple dump cake! It's a 4 ingredient dessert that's super easy and absolutely delicious!

Dump cakes are some of our favorite desserts. Besides this pineapple dessert, some of our other easy dump cake recipes include peach dump cake, apple pie dump cake, pumpkin dump cake, cherry dump cake and strawberry dump cake.

You can even make slow cooker dump cakes and dump cakes in the Instant Pot!

    Ingredients

You only need a few simple ingredients for this easy recipe. You can find them in the grocery store or online if you don't already have these pantry staples:

    • Crushed pineapple -- undrained
    • Brown sugar -- adds sweetness
    • Box cake mix -- yellow cake mix or white cake mix
    • Butter -- thinly sliced

How to Make Pineapple Dump Cake

First, preheat your oven to 350 degrees f. Next, grease a 9 x 13 inch baking dish with non stick cooking spray or butter.

Then, pour cans of pineapple into baking dish. Spread the crushed pineapple so that it covers the bottom of the baking dish evenly.

Sprinkle the brown sugar on top of the pineapple. I like to smooth the sugar over the pineapple so that it's nice and even.

Now, sprinkle the dry cake mix over the pineapple layer. You don't mix anything into the cake mix. It's just plain dry cake mix on top of pineapple!

Use a spatula or wooden spoon to spread the cake mix so that it is nice and even. You can push some of it into the pineapple juice if you want.

This helps to make sure that you won't have any dry spots as the cake bakes.

Finally, place the pats of butter in even rows on top of cake mix. We got 7 rows of butter, with smaller slices on the end.

If you need more butter, you can cut extra slices to fill in any gaps on the cake.

    Cooking Time

Bake the pineapple cake uncovered for 45 to 50 minutes. When it's done, the top of the cake should be golden brown and the pineapple should be hot and bubbling.

Check the cake during the baking process. If you see dry spots, you can add a little more butter to those areas. You can also press the dry cake mix into the liquid if you want.

Since all ovens vary, you can bake the cake for up to 1 hour if you need to.

Serve this delicious dump cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, and a maraschino cherry on top. Even the easiest cake recipe can make an impressive dessert!

    How to Store and Reheat

Store your pineapple dump cake in an airtight container or in the baking pan covered with plastic wrap.

You can refrigerate the cake or leave it out at room temperature if your kitchen is cool enough, depending on preference.

We usually leave the dump cake at room temperature and just slice and eat whenever. But, if you want to reheat the cake, microwave individual portions at low power for around 30 seconds.

    Variations

There are a few easy ways to customize this delightful pineapple dump cake!

Instead of butter slices, pour melted butter on top of the cake mix before baking the dump cake.

Substitute 1 can of cherry pie filling for 1 can of crushed pineapple, and you've got an easy cherry pineapple dump cake recipe!

Another fruit filling that goes great with the pineapple flavor is blueberry. Top this sweet treat with fresh blueberries, or add some blueberries or blueberry pie filling to the crushed pineapple filling.
