Simple Starfish Wreath Made from a Pool Noodle

This post may contain affiliate links. Please see disclosure for more information. Published: Jun 12, 2015 · Modified: May 21, 2016 by Dee

Hi friends! I absolutely love the ocean, but we happen to live smack-dab in the middle of the desert. So when summer rolls around, and it's blazing hot outside, I think about the beach. A lot.

I've been adding more and more aqua tones around the house, and when it was time to make a new wreath for the front door, I wanted to use the same refreshing shade for the outside, as well. So I made this simple starfish wreath, and it looks as cool as can be!

summer wreath with aqua chevron ribbon and starfish

Actually, I cheated a little when I made this starfish wreath. Does it look familiar? If so, that's because you may have seen the base in it's former life as an aqua blue and white spring wreath. I love to remake wreaths, and I've made over wreaths from just about every season. It helps save money, and it also saves time, both of which I could a little more of!

Anyway, the base of the wreath is a pool noodle that I cut and taped so that it was the right size and shape. These make the best wreath forms, and they are so much cheaper than buying foam wreaths from the store!

    Supplies for a starfish wreath

    • Pool noodle
    • Duck Tape
    • 2 spools of aqua chevron ribbon
    • Starfish
    • Glue
    • Floral pin
    • Knife to cut the pool noodle

    Directions

Cut and shape the pool noodle into a circle, and tape ends together with Duck Tape.

duct tape pool noodle ends together

Then, wrap the ribbon around the pool noodle, gluing the ribbon to the foam as you work your way around. I also glued the ends together so that they would be nice and tight. I used floral pins to secure the ribbon in place.

use floral pin to hold ribbon in place

I used a coupon to buy these starfish at Michael's, so that made it a good deal. It's hard to tell, but they have a little bit of glitter on the front, and they sparkle a little bit.

I removed the flowers from the original wreath and used hot glue to attach the starfish to the ribbon. This took all of two minutes at the most -- my kind of craft!

And that's that! Easy peasy, right?! This is why I love redoing wreaths, but even if you're starting over from scratch, it still doesn't take long at all to complete this craft.

I'm thrilled with the way this simple starfish wreath turned out, but now I have this sudden urge to go grab a tropical drink and hang out by the front door.

    Thanks for stopping by!

I love the starfish on the wreath. It reminds me of the time I spent in the Keys. Good memories.

What an awesome idea to use a noodle as the base! I used to live by the ocean, now we live at least 6 hours away. This makes me nostalgic for the sea air! Thanks for sharing this!

I found cutting it worked great for getting the wreath round, but yes, even a ton of glue can't always hold up against our hot summer heat! Hoping this one lasts a little while! 🙂

That is so cute, Dee! You had me at the pretty turquoise chevron! I made a wreath a couple of years ago, using a pool noodle. Mine never did quite make it into a circle, more of an oval! I should redo, & I think I will. I redo and reuse wreaths all the time, too. Do you ever have a problem with hot glue on an outdoor wreath here in our climate? Even though my front door is recessed under a covered walkway, I still find things have fallen off because the glue melted. Just one of those things we love about AZ summers, right?
