I am all about easy recipes, and this easy strawberry pie filling dump cake is one of the easiest recipes you will ever make!

It’s basically an easier way to make strawberry cobbler and it’s just a combination of strawberry filling, yellow cake mix and butter — that’s it! The buttery cake mix crust is tender, flaky and absolutely delicious when combined with the flavor of the sweet strawberry filling.

Why you’ll love this easy dessert!

It’s practically foolproof. Even if you’re not a baker, you can make this!

It’s a classic dump cake with 3 ingredients — nothing extra. Just dump and bake!

Perfect for potlucks and all of your spring and summer celebrations. My kids gobble this one up fast!

What You Need

Here are the basics. You can find the full amounts in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post.

  • Canned strawberry pie filling — 2 cans
  • Boxed yellow cake mix
  • Butterย

How to Make Strawberry Dump Cake

First, preheat oven, and grease a baking dish with butter or nonstick cooking spray. Next, spoon the strawberry pie filling into the baking pan, making sure to spread it evenly along the bottom of the baking dish.

Sprinkle the dry cake mix on top of the pie filling. Then, spread the cake mix with a spatula or knife so that the pie filling is completely covered by cake mix.

Next, slice butter thinly into small pats. Then, place the thin slices of butter in neat rows all over the top of the cake mix. Bake uncovered for 40 to 50 minutes. When it’s ready, your strawberry dump cake will have a golden brown, crunchy topping and hot, bubbly strawberry filling.

Quick Tips

I like to lightly press the cake mix into the filling. This is so there won’t be any clumps of cake mix after baking.

You might have to cut the butter into smaller pieces to make sure that the cake mix is covered.

Enjoy this perfect dessert with a scoop of ice cream, a dollop of whipped cream, and juicy fresh strawberries on the side!

How to Store a Dump Cake

You can leave the cake out at room temperature for a little while if your kitchen is cool, or place it in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. Just make sure to keep leftovers in an airtight container or covered with plastic wrap.

If you want, you can also freeze the dump cake in a freezer safe container for up to 3 months. Enjoy any leftover cake straight from the fridge, at room temperature, or heat in in the microwave at low power for a few seconds.

Variations

Instead of using yellow cake mix, try a box of white cake mix or strawberry cake mix. Or, use chocolate cake mix for a chocolate strawberry dump cake.

If you don’t want to slice up a stick of butter, pour melted butter over the top layer of the dry cake mix before baking the cake.

A dust of powdered sugar over some fresh berries is a delicious way to add a little extra pizzazz to your yummy cake!

You can also make Instant Pot dump cake and slow cooker dump cake. We have made the Instant Pot cherry dump cake with cherry pie filling and crock pot peach cobbler using canned peaches with great results!
