What is a Dump Cake?
Dump cakes are named after the process of making the cake: just dump and go! That’s why these are the easiest cake to make, requiring only three ingredients and minimal prep time!
For the oven or crock pot, simply dump your desired fruit filling or pie filling on the bottom of a baking pan or pot, then cover with cake mix and thin slices of butter. For the Instant Pot, prepare this in a separate baking dish and add water to the inner pot.
My Best Tips for Making Dump Cakes
These cakes are already super easy, but I have several tips for a better cake!
First, make sure the cake mix is spread evenly over the fruit filling for even baking.
Cut the butter into thin pats so it melts evenly over the cake mix and doesn’t leave dry spots.
The biggest mistake to avoid when making dump cakes: don’t stir everything together!
