Who doesn’t like making s’mores in the summer?! We love making s’mores in the oven or air fryer, and we love making s’mores brownies and s’mores ice cream and s’mores cookies! But you guys, this easy dessert dip is the easiest, cleanest way to enjoy your favorite summer dessert all year round — no camp fire or fire pit needed! Best of all, you only need 3 simple ingredients!

large marshmallows, Hershey bars and butter

Ingredient Notes

Here’s what you need to make it! Full amounts are in the printable recipe card below.

  • Butter — to grease the pan and help chocolate melt evenly
  • Hershey Bars — or any milk chocolate candy bar. They melt quickly and evenly. Milk chocolate chips also work, but dark chocolate or semi-sweet chocolate doesn’t melt as well
  • Marshmallows — Cut large marshmallows in half for even baking. Mini marshmallows will also work
  • Graham crackers — or cookies for dipping

You will also need an oven-safe glass baking pan — a shallow pie dish or round pan works well. You can use a casserole dish or an oven-safe cast iron skillet.

How to Make S’mores Dip in the Oven

First, preheat oven, and butter your glass pan really well. This helps prevent the chocolate from sticking and keeps the melty chocolate nice and soft. Now, break the chocolate bars up, and place them in a single layer evenly in the pie plate. It’s fine if they overlap a little, but don’t stack a bunch on top of each other, or the layer of chocolate might not melt evenly.

Place the marshmallows evenly on top of the chocolate. You can use mini marshmallows or large marshmallows for the dip. If you use the large ones, be sure to cut them in half first. We tried using whole ones, and they don’t melt as well. If you cut them in half, it’s much easier to eat!

Bake for about 5 minutes or until the toasted marshmallows are nice and golden brown and the chocolate is melted. You can broil the dip for a few seconds to get a crispier top if you want. Now, you’re ready to dig in!

What to Serve with S’mores Dip

We love to use graham crackers for dipping. They’re the obvious choice here as they are the base of the classic campfire treat. You can use vanilla wafers, Oreo cookies, peanut butter cookies, Ritz crackers or fresh fruit. Fresh strawberries as fun to dip in this chocolatey dip.

How to Store Leftover Dip

Refrigerate any leftover s’mores dip in an airtight container. It is probably easiest to cover the baking dish with plastic wrap. It will keep for about 4 days. Reheat the dip in your microwave or in the oven. This gooey chocolate dip does not freeze well.

Recipe Variations

It’s easy to make this dip in your air fryer oven or toaster oven. Just place the pan on the middle rack and bake at 400 degrees f.

Make s’mores dip in the microwave. Just cook on high power for about 1 minute or until marshmallows are puffed up and chocolate is melted.

You can broil the dip in the oven for about 5 minutes. The chocolate does not melt as well, but the marshmallows are perfectly cooked.

Be sure to broil on a lower temperature if your oven has this feature. This allows the chocolate to melt evenly and prevents the marshmallows from burning before they soften up.

Recipe Tips

Be sure to cut large marshmallows in half so that they melt evenly.

Room temperature milk chocolate bars work best. But, you can use milk chocolate chips instead — just avoid semi sweet chocolate as it doesn’t melt as well.

Keep an eye on the dip to prevent the tops of the marshmallows from burning as it cooks fast.
